Gourmet Quality – Our focus is providing a very high quality product direct to the consumer. Even the shape of the pepper is considered before including in a customer’s box. We use all organic methods which involve a great deal more labor than traditional farming methods. Each plant is started in door during the winter and transplanted outdoors by hand. We grow in ground fertilized by only sustainable organic materials. When mother nature does not provide enough rain, our plants are watered from a series of mini ponds. Our weed control relies on manually pulling weeds and large volumes of mulch produced right here on our own property. Pest control is the responsibility of our chicken and ducks. Even the size and shape of the pepper is considered before being added to a customer’s box.
Direct to Consumer Pricing – Our direct to consumer sales of fresh peppers come in two sizes. A small flat rate box (SFRB) which contains between 20 and 30 peppers and a half box which contains about a dozen peppers. Occasionally we produce more than our patrons require. Although this has not happened in two years, when it does we list a larger box. The “Peck Box” is just that: A peck of peppers in a medium flat rate box.
Peck Boxes for Small Sauce and Salsa Makers
Peck Boxes – The USPS medium flat rate box holds about a peck of peppers. Depending on the size of the individual peppers, this usually weighs about 3 1/2 pounds. The weight is an average. Smaller pepper tend to weigh more by volume. Larger peppers tend to weigh less by volume. The 3 1/2 pound average was influenced by our most popular peppers, the Carolina Reaper and the Chocolate Bhutlah.
2016 Peck Pricing – Our pricing on the Peck Box for 2016 is $42.00. This averages to about $12.00 a pound depending on the individual pepper. Like our other direct to consumer boxes, shipping is included in this price. It is often perfect for small sauce and salsa makers.
Peck Box Availability – Peck boxes are not often available. Although we expand our grow every year, demand is most often higher than production. When they are available, they are listed as an option along with the smaller boxes in our online store.
Wholesale and Contracted Grows
Due to the nature of our business, we are not able to offer traditional wholesale arrangements. In some circumstances, we do offer contracted grows. These are considered individually for the following season. Our first consideration being if we can meet each others needs. If so, we consider the agreement to be more of a project. One in which all parties are committed.
Typical Agreement – Specific terms will very based on project.
Rate – $12.00 / pound.
Delivery – Before October 31, 2018
Shipping / Pick Up – To be discussed and agreed upon.
Commitment Fee – 25% before project is started.
Crop Failure – Mother Nature is not always kind. In the event of a partial failure, the customer agrees to accept the partial fulfillment. The commitment fee will be applied to the final price. In the event of a total failure, the commitment fee will be returned.
Peppers by Mail is a small family farm with tremendous resources. Although our acreage is small, we are nestled in the heart of a thriving agricultural community. If your project sounds like something we would like to participate in, we will consider leasing land and equipment to fulfill it.
